Gourmet Nachos

We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post.

Jake has created a classic gourmet nacho recipe. It is fairly easy, budget friendly, feeds lots of people, and is a crowd pleaser! We make these nachos when we have a lot of family coming over. For example, we are going to make it for our family for Mother’s Day this coming Sunday (5/12). Let us know if you enjoyed this recipe! Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs hamburger
  • 1 can pinto beans
  • 1 can black beans
  • 1 can kidney beans
  • 6 servings of Minute Rice
  • Half brick of Velveeta cheese
  • .5-1 minced red onion
  • 4 cloves of garlic minced
  • Italian seasoning to taste
  • Garlic powder to taste
  • Onion powder to taste
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Directions:

STEP 1
In a large frying pan, pour a drizzle of vegetable oil onto the frying pan heat it up and then add the hamburger.

STEP 2
Cook the hamburger until it is about 90-95% done some pink is okay.

STEP 3
Remove the hamburger from the frying pan and drain in a strainer until grease is no longer dripping.

STEP 4
Wipe down the frying pan with paper towels.

STEP 5
In the same frying pan pour another drizzle of oil and add the minced onions and garlic,

STEP 6
Fry the onions and garlic until they start to smell and become tender (about 2-3 minutes). Be careful not to burn them.

STEP 7
Add hamburger back to the same frying pan turn down burner heat to low and wipe down strainer.

STEP 8
Open the Pinto and Black and Kidney beans to pour them into the same strainer.

STEP 9
Rinse the beans.

STEP 10
Add the beans to the same frying pan as the hamburger and restore the burner heat to high.

STEP 11
Add in two bean cans of water to the frying pan.

STEP 12
Add in some garlic powder onion powder salt and pepper so the hamburger can capture the flavor.

STEP 13
Mix contents of the frying pan together and simmer.

STEP 14
Meanwhile as the hamburger is simmering with the beans place the rice in the microwave.

STEP 15
Note: Cooking the rice acts as a form of a timer for the hamburger. When the rice is done so is the hamburger.

STEP 16
As the rice and hamburger are cooking add a half brick of Velveeta cheese to a pot add milk to desired cheese thickness and melt the cheese.

STEP 17
As the rice nears completion add more garlic powder onion powder Italian seasoning salt and pepper to taste. I haven’t measured the amount of any of these but I tend to use quite a bit to pull out the flavor.

STEP 18
Once the rice and cheese are ready drain the hamburger and bean mix in a strainer.

STEP 19
Once drained add hamburger beans rice and cheese to a big pot and mix together.

STEP 20
Check the flavor as you may need to add more seasoning as needed to this step.

STEP 21
Once flavor is good your food is ready!
